Much like Storm Claudia tore through the northwest the previous evening, City blew the visitors aside at the Etihad Stadium. It was a convincing 3-0 win for their manager's side thanks to goals from Knaak, Shaw and Lauren Hemp. It was a result that clearly signaled their championship potential as they consolidated their standing at the top of the table.

Successive Losses for United

This scoreline represented successive WSL setbacks for Marc Skinner’s side for the initial occasion since spring 2024, placing them seven points off the top team with their championship aspirations hanging by a thread.

United’s ability to balance league and continental football with a thin team has been a hotly discussed topic since they earned a place in the Champions League. Considering the fixture list, it always felt like this was the week that would truly test this fortitude. Unfortunately for the visitors, they looked weary throughout, the historic win against Paris Saint-Germain clearly having left its mark.

Lineup Adjustments

Marc Skinner had sought to freshen things up with a several changes. Ella Toone, Terland, Janssen and Galton all added freshness, although the dropping of the on-form Melvine Malard to the sidelines was questioned.

City, in opposition, have fewer fitness concerns. The City coach made one change from their most recent win over the Toffees with Lauren Hemp making her initial starting appearance since healing from injury.

Dominant First Half

Initial Opportunities
