Users will soon have a new feature that permits them to cut down on the amount of AI-made videos appearing in their timelines. This move comes as the platform disclosed that it now features in excess of 1 bn AI videos.
Testing and Rollout
The new functionality is in a pilot phase over the next few weeks before a global release. This shift coincides with a surge in content created by AI, fueled by new video-generation tools.
AI Proliferation Online
Recent reports that almost one in 10 of the quickest rising channels on another major platform only show AI-generated videos. A large amount of this output is considered low-quality AI content, a phrase for poor-quality, bulk-generated content that is often absurd or bizarre.
“We know from our community that numerous viewers enjoy content created using AI tools, from AI artwork to science explainers, and we want to offer the community the power to see more or less of that, according to their own likes,” said a company executive.
AI on the Platform
The service disclosed that there are now 1.3 billion videos on its service identified as artificially created. Collectively, over 100 mn videos are uploaded to the service every day, making AI-generated material a relatively small part of its overall inventory.
How to Adjust Settings
Members will be capable of limit or boost the level of AI content they view by accessing the topic control feature in the platform and selecting AI-made media. Further subjects that can already be controlled under the tool include politics, clothing, cosmetics, and choreography.
AI Disclosure Rules
Its policies mandate users to identify convincing AI-made content, and it forbids dangerous fake videos of public figures or crisis events. Any realistic AI video that is not labeled can be deleted under its user guidelines.
In addition, the service will henceforth attach an AI-generated label to content made using its own AI tools, or detected by an industry-wide initiative for recognizing artificial media. This step is aimed to stop users from seeking to circumvent the disclosure requirement.
Responsible AI Funding
The platform is furthermore establishing a two million dollar educational fund for professionals and groups to produce educational content about responsible artificial intelligence. This project will assist educational bodies specializing in training coding and technology.
Platform Protection
The video-sharing app has defended its safety measures, following debate over proposals to make redundant a large number of review team members in the UK. It is set to eliminate hundreds of positions in its content moderation department in London, with labor groups and digital protection specialists expressing worry that humans are being replaced by AI moderation.
A company official explained that people-led review would remain essential, but AI can shield workers by removing the most harmful content prior to it is viewed by people. TikTok stated a significant reduction in shocking and graphic content seen by content reviewers over the past year due to intervention by its machine learning processes.
We believe it is crucial to balance people and machines to maintain a secure environment,” she said. “We’ll have humans as part of that process, but we also think it’s highly necessary to limit contact with harmful content as quickly as possible, which is where a lot of the machine support is making a difference work at speed.”
